The Autumn Equinox is a natural time for letting go, we see the trees gently begin to release their leaves.
They don’t hold on to what is finished. They let go, conserve their energy and prepare for the season ahead.
It can be a useful reminder for us too.
At Tribal Earth Festival this summer, I led a group EFT tapping session where we explored something similar: what do you want to leave behind from the festival, and what do you want to carry forward?
The Autumn Equinox gives us another natural moment to pause and rebalance.
September can bring a change in pace — routines restart, evenings draw in, and feelings of anxiety or overwhelm can sometimes increase.
Taking a little time to check in with yourself can help calm the nervous system and create some space.
Practices such as EFT tapping, breathwork, grounding and journaling can help us move beyond simply thinking about change and begin to notice what we are holding in the body too.
What have you been carrying that no longer needs to come with you into autumn?
And equally importantly — what do you want to keep, nurture and carry forward?
As night and day become equal, take a pause
Make yourself a cuppa, find somewhere comfortable, and give yourself a few quiet minutes.
You might like to write under three simple headings:
Celebrate
What has grown for me this year?
What am I proud of?
What have I learned or moved through?
Take a moment to really let yourself acknowledge what has gone well. We can be so quick to move on to the next thing that we forget to notice how far we have come.
Release
What am I ready to let go of?
What feels complete?
What have I been carrying that no longer needs to come with me into autumn?
You don’t have to force anything. Sometimes simply recognising what feels heavy or finished is enough to begin loosening your grip.
Carry forward
What do I want to keep, nurture and carry forward?
What would I like to make more space for?
What supports me, nourishes me or helps me feel more like myself?
Take a moment with each one. You don’t need to find the “right” answer — just notice what comes up.
Using EFT to help let go
Sometimes we know what we want to release, but our body seems to be holding on.
That is one of the reasons I love EFT tapping. It gives us a gentle way to acknowledge what is there — the worry, tension, sadness, frustration or overwhelm — while helping the nervous system begin to settle.
You don’t have to force yourself to “let go”.
Sometimes the first step is simply meeting what you are feeling with a little more compassion and curiosity.
Autumn reminds us that letting go can be part of making space for what comes next.
And perhaps the question is not only:
What am I ready to leave behind?
But also:
What do I want to carry with me into the season ahead?
