How EFT Tapping Can Help to Calm Anxiety During Menopause

Susan Lynch demonstrating EFT EFT Tapping for Menopause Anxiety on the Collarbone

Have you noticed that anxiety seems to have increased massively during menopause?

Perhaps you’re waking at 3am with a racing mind, feeling overwhelmed by everyday tasks, or experiencing a constant sense of unease that wasn’t there before.

If so, you’re not alone. I have been there too.

Many women find that menopause brings unexpected emotional challenges alongside the physical symptoms. The good news is that there are gentle, effective tools that can help. One of my favourites is EFT Tapping.

Why Anxiety Can Increase During Menopause

Menopause is a time of significant change. Fluctuating hormones can affect sleep, mood, concentration and emotional resilience. At the same time, many women are navigating major life transitions, such as caring for ageing parents, supporting children, relationship changes, career pressures or simply questioning what they want from the next stage of life.

When these challenges combine, the nervous system can become overwhelmed.

You may notice:

  • Racing thoughts
  • Increased worry
  • Difficulty relaxing
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Feeling emotionally sensitive
  • A sense of being constantly “on edge”

While these experiences can feel unsettling, they are common and there is support available.

What Is EFT Tapping?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It combines gentle tapping on specific acupressure points with focused attention on thoughts, feelings or physical sensations.

Often described as “acupuncture without needles,” EFT is a simple self-help tool that can help calm the body’s stress response. EFT maybe l simple but powerful “in the moment” tool that can reduce the anxiety for long-term benefits. You may choose to work with a practitioner to create a longer lasting effect.

Research suggests that EFT may help reduce stress and anxiety while supporting emotional wellbeing. Many people report feeling calmer, more grounded and better able to cope after just a few minutes of tapping.

How EFT Tapping Can Help to Calm Anxiety During Menopause

When we feel anxious, our nervous system can become stuck in a state of alert.

EFT helps by:

  • Bringing awareness back into your body and what you’re feeling
  • Reducing the intensity of difficult emotions
  • Encouraging a sense of safety and calm
  • Helping regulate the nervous system
  • Creating space for clearer thinking and decision-making

Many of my clients find that EFT gives them a practical tool they can use whenever anxiety begins to rise.

Try This Simple EFT and Breathing Exercise

Take a comfortable breath in and slowly breathe out.

As you gently tap on your collarbone, and repeat:-

“Even though I’m feeling anxious right now, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

Continue tapping and perhaps repeat a statement like this:

  • “I am safe in this moment”
  • “I can allow my body to relax.”
  • “I choose calm and compassion for myself.”

Pause, take another slow breath and notice how you feel.

Even a small shift can be significant.

Menopause can be challenging, but it can also be an invitation to slow down, listen to yourself and discover new ways of caring for your wellbeing.

EFT is one of the tools I use with clients to help reduce anxiety, regulate the nervous system and create greater emotional balance during midlife and beyond.

If you’re struggling with anxiety, overwhelm or emotional ups and downs, remember that support is available and things can feel easier.
